The Huntsman Marine Science Center (HMSC) in St. Andrews, New Brunswick,
Canada is a not-for-profit charitable organization that focuses on
research and education. They provide unique research and teaching
facilities for the use of many universities and other institutions as
well as marine education for elementary and secondary students and their
teachers and the general public. A Sediment Sampler was required for the
investigation and research work the centre performs.
The Sediment Sampler takes samples using twin air cylinders to drive
acrylic tubes into the soil. Once a sample is taken, a fresh tube is
rotated into position and is then ready for the next sample. The
Sediment Sampler can take up to 3 samples before surfacing for
reloading. The tubes can be removed from the Sampler without having to
remove the entire unit from the ROV. The unit is available in two
formats, three single 2” diameter sampler or a trio of ¾” diameter
samplers.
