SeaWolf Shipment to Gesma
September 2008
PRESS RELEASE:
The Atlantic Underwater Research Group (GESMA) takes delivery of a Shark Marine SeaWolf and LARS System.
Shark Marine Technologies Inc. and our French representative ITER are please to announce that the GESMA, France has just completed training on
their new SeaWolf ROV and LARS System, in Brest, France. The small but powerful SeaWolf ROV is complimented by a unique Launch and Recovery System
(LARS). The LARS is capable of unfolding itself, raising the ROV and launching itself, all in one smooth motion. Upon completion of the dive the
LARS recovers the ROV using the tether, loads into the LARS storage area and completely stores the “A” frame into a compact package; again in one
single operation.
This system is completely self-sufficient making it operational from any of GESMA ‘s vessels with enough deck space for the small footprint. The
unit is controlled from Shark Marine’s state of the art control system, eliminating the need for a separate control container. The system was supplied
with 2 – 2000 foot (600 metre) tethers, for quick change out in the case of an emergency.
The ROV was fitted with extreme low light and colour cameras, multi-beam and altimeter sonars, and a dual manipulator. In addition an ROV mounted recovery
reel equipped with 1000 feet (300metres) of line for attaching to a target for recovery. This system eliminates the possibility of fouling the recovery
line with the ROV tether.
Speed of setup, deployment, and recovery, with a simple operation is the key design factors that GESMA needed to complete their missions.
